Being Prepared When Kids Ask, “What Are We Doing Today?”

How long does it take from the moment your kids wake up in the morning to the moment they inevitably ask:
“What are we doing today?”
Sometimes it’s before I even have both eyes open; other times my kids manage to resist asking until they have taken their last bite of breakfast. But it always happens, without fail. And right now, while school is closed through the rest of the academic year, our usual go-to playground is closed, and we can’t even pass time by leisurely strolling the aisles of Target due to COVID-19, we could all use a little help getting through the day.
I created an activity list to help my kids find things they’d like to do throughout the day, and help me not have to come up with a bunch of options every time they utter the dreaded “I’m bored.” The checklist has options that work for both of my kids (ages 4 and 7), and I even snuck in some household chores that they still think are fun. I broke it down into categories so depending on if they’re in the mood to move, create, FaceTime, bake, or build, they have several ideas at their disposal. And, it’s bonus reading practice for my first-grader since his little sister can’t read yet.
If you’d like your own activity checklist, we’ve got you covered: enter your name and email address below to download our free printables.
After you submit your info, two links will appear in the space below — you’ll have your choice to download an un-editable PDF version, an editable Word version, or both, if you please.
After downloading and editing (if applicable), print your layout, laminate, and use a dry erase marker to check off new activities each day. No laminator? No problem! Use clear packaging tape as a lamination substitute, or a clear plastic binder sleeve — either will allow you to customize each day with a dry erase marker.
